Adobe is adding new generative AI tools to Photoshop, powered by their Firefly Image 3 foundation model. The most notable new tool is "Reference Image", which allows users to provide an image that the AI will use as a guide to generate similar content. This "Reference Image" tool is meant to make the AI generation process easier and more intuitive than crafting detailed text prompts. Adobe is working on a "do not train" tag for its Content Authenticity Initiative to prevent reference images from being used to train the AI model. Other new generative AI tools include "Generate Background", "Enhance Detail", and "Generate Similar" to create new images and enhance existing ones. Adobe's Firefly Image 3 model has improved image generation capabilities compared to previous versions, with better photorealistic quality. Firefly Image 3 also has better understanding of long, descriptive text prompts and can produce clearer text in generated images. Adobe is also adding new standard Photoshop tools like an Adjustment Brush and Adjustment Presets to speed up creative workflows. The new Photoshop features with Firefly AI are currently available in beta and will be generally released later this year. Adobe positions Firefly as a more capable and commercially-viable generative AI model compared to competitors.
