Microsoft has a new Windows and Surface chief

Microsoft is reorganizing its Windows and Surface teams, bringing them back together under a single leader, Pavan Davuluri. Mikhail Parakhin, who previously led the Windows engineering team, is leaving to explore new roles outside of Microsoft. The reorganization aims to enable a more holistic approach to building silicon, systems, experiences, and devices that span Windows client and cloud. Microsoft is placing a strong emphasis on AI, with the creation of a new Microsoft AI organization led by Mustafa Suleyman. Suleyman, a co-founder of Inflection AI, has been hired by Microsoft along with several other Inflection AI employees. The Microsoft AI team will be responsible for consumer-facing AI products like Bing, Edge, and Copilot. There will be close collaboration between the Windows team and the Microsoft AI team on AI, silicon, and experiences. The reorganization involves changes to the leadership and reporting structure of various teams within Microsoft's Experiences + Devices division. The move is seen as a talent acquisition by Microsoft, as it brings on key personnel from Inflection AI. The reorganization aims to navigate potential areas of overlap between the Windows and Microsoft AI teams, particularly around Microsoft Edge.
