The author created a Glassdoor account about 10 years ago providing only an email address. Glassdoor has since changed their policy to require real names. When the author contacted Glassdoor support recently, Glassdoor added their real name and location to their profile without consent. Glassdoor's data policy states users can access, control, rectify and delete their personal data, but there are loopholes. The author objected to Glassdoor storing their name but was told it was required to have "full access." No definition of full access was provided. Glassdoor also created an unsolicited Fishbowl account for the author requiring more personal information to access. Glassdoor said it was not possible to edit or anonymize the author's name, only option was to delete their account. Deleting the account only deactivates it, not deletes personal data. Users must use a deletion form. Glassdoor treats all users equally by requiring names but does not allow users to edit their own profiles. The author plans to delete their Glassdoor account after getting a data dump to remove their personal information. The passage serves as a warning for Glassdoor users to consider deleting their accounts due to lack of privacy and consent issues.
